WEEK 26

ACADEMICS:

Language Arts:

         Our Book this week is:  Lionel in the Winter

         We continue to work on: 

         1.Decoding Words using Dots and Dashes  2.  Comprehension  3.  Fluent Reading

         Our New Skills in Language Arts are:

         1. Adjectives  2.  Endings: -ed, -ing   3. Contractions

         Spelling and Comprehension Tests will be given every Thursday.  :) 

Math: Place Value (Ones/Tens/Hundreds)

          **Math Timed Test are given on Thursdays. **

Writing:

           Poems  (Learning different types)      

Science:  Seasons & Sounds

Health:  Healthy Living

Homework: 

Please continue to make sure your child is doing homework nightly Monday through Thursday.  We do check to see that homework is done daily.

"TEDDY" BEAR PICNIC

Please have your child bring in a teddy bear for this short week.  We are going to be studying important people in our history.  Our centers will include a Teddy Bear Picnic.

WEEK 23 & 24

ACADEMICS:

Language Arts: This week:   Wonderful Worms

                        Next Week:  NO STORY due to the Short Week!!!!                

  We continue to work on:

Decoding Words using Dots and Dashes

Comprehension

Fluent Reading

Spelling Lists will come home the first day of the week with your child.

On Friday, February 15,  we will send home the Spelling List for the next week since it is a short week.

There will be no comprehension test on Thursday, February 21.  :)

Spelling and Comprehension Tests will be given every Thursday.  :) 

Math:  Measurement (Standard and Non-Standard) & Place Value

**We are beginning our rapid recall addition and subtraction facts tests with your child this week.  We will send home a practice sheet with your child the first day of the week, and will give a timed test on that practice every Thursday.  **

Writing: We are continuing to work on specific skills each week with writing to reinforce the children's skills and abilities.  We are creating "How To" Books, and they will be putting their books together. 

Social Studies:  February Holidays and American Symbols & People

Health:  Staying Healthy (Kleenexes, Healthy Eating, Spreading Germs)

Homework: 

Please continue to make sure your child is doing homework nightly Monday through Thursday. 

LANGUAGE ARTS:  

Monday: Read story at home with your child, and do the worksheets sent home in your child's Important Notes Pocket, Comprehension Questions about the story, Practice Spelling Words & Math Recall
Tuesday:  Have your child read their "Book Club" Books that children will be bringing home, practice comprehension questions, and Review Spelling Words and Math Recall

Wednesday:Free Read, Practice Comprehension Questions, Review Spelling Words, Practice Math Recall

Thursday: Read 5 Poems out of the Poetry Notebook that will come home with your child on Thursday nights.  (Please send this back with your child on Fridays)

Friday:  Optional... Read for 15 minutes a night.

MATH:

Monday through Thursday Nights:  A nightly Math page will be coming home with your child in the Important Notes Pocket of his/her folder.

  • TALENT SHOW:  The talent show is this Saturday, and we have quite a few students who are going to be participating.  Make sure you come and enjoy the wonderful talents of our Sope Creek Students!!!!  They are AMAZING!!!!
  • WRITING FAIR:    If your child is interested in participating in the Writing Fair, please send in a note, and we will send home the information to you next week.  Thanks SO much!
  • CAREER DAY:  Sope Creek's Career Day is coming in March and we are looking for Parent Volunteers who are interested in sharing what they do with Sope Creek Students.  If you are interested, please let us know as soon as possible so that we can let the Guidance Counselors know to schedule you in!  Thank you!
