WEEK 16 & 17
ACADEMICS:
Language Arts: Week 16: Story: Splash, Splash.
Week 17: Story: Hop Jump
We are working on decoding words in specific text excerpts from a daily book. The kids are learning how to sound out words and mark each sound they hear in the words with "dots and dashes". This process along with other strategies we are working on in the classroom, will help in your child's reading ability, their fluency, and their comprehension.
Math: Addition and Subtraction We are noticing the children are really struggling with the doubles facts. If you would please work with your child on mastering learning their doubles facts in their notebooks, that would be a huge help to your child as we work on these more difficult addition and subtraction problems.
Writing: We are continuing to work on specific skills each week with writing to reinforce the children's skills and abilities. Now that the children are enjoying writing, we are going to introduce graphic organizers to help them organize their thoughts before writing. Continue to check their work after they finish writing to look for capitalization, punctuation and complete sentences.
Social Studies: Holidays Around the World and Character Education
Homework:
Please continue to make sure your child is doing homework nightly Monday through Thursday.
LANGUAGE ARTS:
Monday: Read story at home with your child, and do the worksheets sent home in your child's Important Notes Pocket.
Tuesday: Have your child read their "Book Club" Books that children will be bringing home.
Wednesday:Free Read
Thursday: Read 5 Poems out of the Poetry Notebook that will come home with your child on Thursday nights. (Please send this back with your child on Fridays)
Friday: Optional... Read for 15 minutes a night.
MATH:
Monday through Thursday Nights: A nightly Math page will be coming home with your child in the Important Notes Pocket of his/her folder.

- BOOK ORDERS:
Book Orders should be in by the end of this week, beginning of next week. If you are a parent who wanted to use the books to go under the tree, I will be calling you as soon as they come in, and will let you know to come and get them.
HOLIDAY CELEBRATIONS:
Our Holiday Party will be on Thursday, November 20th from 12:30-1:30. We are planning center activities for them to play, and will be asking parents to send some treats in for the party. If you are interested in helping with centers, please let us know. We're going to need about 6-7 parents to help with our fun-filled center activities. :) Thank you, again, for helping in your child's educational activities!
