Mission for White's Whales

                                                                              

At Sope Creek Elementary being in first grade is a time for exciting first things.  My goal is to provide an environment that is conducive to learning so that each student may achieve his/her highest learning capacity. Learning the necessary skills to be a successful reader is a big step for many students and various opportunities are given to experience new concepts in these areas as well as in mathematics, science, social studies, and creativity. We also have a strong focus on creating an atmosphere that encourages Life Skills such as trustworthiness, truthfulness, active listening, striving for one's personal best and "no put downs".

Student Council-Movie Night Committee

Dear Students and Parents,

The first ever Sope Creek Family Movie Night is coming on January 20, 2012.  It is being sponsored by the Student Council.  We will be showing The Smurfs and National Treasure 2.  Popcorn and drinks will be available for purchase, but you can BYOC (Bring Your Own Candy).  We will be expecting that you bring your parents because this is a family event – no drop offs, please.  So mark your calendar – January 20 7:00-9:00 in the cafeteria and the media center.  Optional donation for Must Ministries gladly accepted.

Help Our Young Lungs Breathe Easier

 

Sope Creek is relaunching a no-idling campaign to protect the health of our students and the health of our environment. In addition to restricting idling on school grounds by school buses, we are also asking parents to adopt a

no-idling policy for personal vehicles.

 

Why should you support the no-idling effort?

 

• Idling harms our health

Vehicle exhaust is harmful to everyone’s health, but it especially affects children who breathe more and at a faster rate than adults. By turning off your car, our students, teachers and parents won’t breathe in unhealthy fumes as they enter school.  

 

• Idling pollutes the air we breathe

Vehicle idling creates unnecessary pollution. By not idling, you reduce car exhaust and prevent up to 3 pounds of pollution per month from going into the air.

 

 

• Idling costs you money

A popular misconception is that idling your car uses less gas than turning it off and restarting. The truth is, if you are going to be sitting more than 30 seconds, it is more fuel efficient to turn your engine off. Idling also causes more wear and tear on engine parts.

Pizza Night

PAPA JOHNS PIZZA NIGHT – Support your school – Sope Creek receives 15% of all Sope Creek orders on the second Tuesday of each month! The class with the most $ in pizza wins a pizza party!! This is an easy (and delicious) way to raise money to support the foundation programs. IMPORTANT: Parents, in order to reduce the cost of printing, the process of sending in receipts for Papa Johns pizza nights has changed. Order your pizza as usual from the specials listed below. By the end of the week, SEND IN YOUR STICKER FROM THE SIDE OF THE PIZZA BOX THAT SHOWS THE PRICE!!! Just tape or glue it to a blank sheet of paper, and be sure to include the name of your child’s teacher so their class can get credit!!
