Fun Run is tomorrow!!

The Boosterthon Fun Run is tomorrow from 9:45-11:00. We would love for all of you to come out and cheer us on with your voice as well as signs. Please have your child dress is comfortable shorts as well as shoes. I will have the fun run shirts here in the classroom and will hand them out in the morning. They will have plenty of time to go to the restrooom and change their shirt.

Tonight and tomorrow night are the last nights to get pledges. Our class is doing a great job! We have $75 per lap already raised!!  WOW!! Please remember that 10% of what our class raises and collects by September 13th, comes directly back to our class. I will be sending home the collection envelopes on Friday.

There will be no specials tomorrow since our fun run will be during that time. So, we will treat the day like a weekend, therefore Keller's and Moschetta's group will both go to PE on Friday. We will also have sack lunches in the room on Thursday, so if your child doesn't like sack lunches, please send in a lunch. Please also send lots of water. There will be water at the fun run, but I want to make sure they are hydrated before and after the run since it is so hot out there. I told the Vipers today that they are welcome to wear a hat while they run if they would like to.

On Friday, a permission form will be coming home for the field trip we have coming up on September 15th to the Tellus Museum. We will be gone from 9:30-1:00. Please send this back in on Tuesday (no school on Monday for Labor Day).

Student Council Representatives will also be voted on in the morning of September 6th. If your child is interested in running for our classroom representative, please send in his/her materials (poster, speech, etc) by the 6th.

Boosterthon information

Thank you for your support of this year’s Boosterthon Fun Run and our class!  We are halfway through the program and the Boosterthon Fun Run is quickly approaching. So far, as a team we are up to $37 a lap.  Our next goal is $40 per lap.  Thank you  for your help so far.  We need your help to finish strong!

The students are having a blast learning about TEAMWORK through the EPIC ADVENTURE theme!  So far this week, we learned about how important it is to be a team and ENCOURAGE others around us by making others stronger with our words. Also, great teams PLAY outside together by getting exercise and building friendships outdoors. I hope that you are logging-on with your students every night and watching the Epic Adventure character videos as well as getting pledges to help our school. 

This weekend is a special challenge—the “Weekend Challenge.”  Any student that gets $3 per lap OR $90 flat donation over the weekend, will receive the bonus reward of the Gigantic Boosterthon Beach ball on Monday. The students are super excited to rise to the challenge!

Thanks again for your help and support of our class! Let’s work together to finish strong and reach our goal as a team!  I’ll see you at the Boosterthon Fun Run next week!

We had a great week! Today we were very busy testing our knowledge on skills we worked on last week as well as this week. Everyone did a great job with the place value test. We are so proud of ourselves! We also took a spelling test where the kids did amazing! Keep up all of the great work.

Next week will be just as busy. We are going to be moving onto Greek architecture. We will be studying the different columns and comparing the columns to buildings we have in our country. One night next week, your child will be asked to find pictures of columns that are the same as the three columns we are studying from Greece. We will wrap up our democracy discussion on Monday and display our knowledge on the immersion wall and then move onto columns!

This week we went to our library orientation as well. We will start going to the library every Tuesday in the morning. Please have your child bring their library books back each Tuesday, so they can get new ones.

Please remember that our classroom representative will be chosen on September 6th. I have had several students say they are interested. If your child is ready with a presentation, please send it in. We can get started as soon as they come in.

Keep up the great work with pledges too! We are doing so great! Remember the Boosterthon is Thursday at 9:45. We would love to have you out there cheering us on!

Next week in Math, we will be comparing numbers, estimating and moving into addition. If you have an extra deck of cards that you could donate to our classroom or let us use next week, please send it in Monday. We will be playing some games to go along with our lessons.

Just a reminder about our Boosterthon Fun Run. We will be running on September 1st at 9:45. We would love for you to come out and cheer us on. The kids are so excited and are doing an amazing job getting pledges. They have already reached their goal of pj day and a homework pass. Today they reached the goal of "your choice hour". We will schedule a time where the kids will get to choose what they want to do for an hour during the day. Keep up the great work!

From what the kids said today, everyone loved the friendship bread and would like the recipe. I will send home copies of the recipe for all of you to make! I'm so glad you all enjoyed it!

Boosterthon is coming your way!

Tonight your child will be coming home with an EPIC adventure map, which will be where they will record their pledges. They came up with many ideas of family and friends to ask for pledges. We earned a lot of money last year for our school as well as the classrooms individually. Let's do it again!

Also, your child needs to study multiplication facts through 4's tonight. We have begun taking timed tests on 2's and 3's. They are really showing great progress! We will continue to work on this skill for the whole semester, so if your child has not mastered this skill, no worries. We will continue to take the timed tests and also practice. Your child's timed tests will come home Friday for you to see. Please continue to practice at home!

Our study of Greece is going well. Hopefully all of you were shown the body mapping. We are learning the difference between direct democracy and representative democracy. We will continue to work on this for the rest of the week and then next week we will move into Greek architecture.

Reading assignments are coming in quickly and they are wonderful! At this time, I am giving the kids a chance to get used to the assignments and then they will begin receiving a grade (1,2,3) on their assignment. They are doing a great job!

Open House

 
Thank you so much for coming to Open House last night. It was great to see all of you! I appreciate all of your supprt and dedication to your children. We are a great class and I am really looking forward to a wonderful year!

Thank you also for all of the supplies you have sent into our classroom. You have been very generous.

Today, papers will come home in your child's folder. We did a lot of group bonding this week, so there are not many work papers coming home. There is however a sheet to order your class t-shirt. Please send them back as soon as possible.

This morning we went to the computer lab in order to gather topics for our research project. Your child can pick whatever they would like to know more about and become a master. We talked about what was expected. One of the requirements is for your child to interview someone who is knowledgable about their topic. For example, if your child is researching sharks, they could call the aquarium in order to find more information about sharks. We will be researching on the computer, newspapers, books, etc. So, as your child is thinking through their topics, please remind them of this requirement. Each of them have so many great ideas and are really excited about this project.

The project will not be due until around April or May. We will continue to research throughout the school year. Most of the work will be done here at school, however there may be a time something needs to be done at home. I will let you know when.

Boosterthon activities will continue next week. Monday is crazy sock day. Tuesday we will have a Pep Rally in the gym and the students should wear red, white and blue. The Boosterthon Fun Run will be on September 1st. 3rd graders will run from 9:45-11:00. We would love for you to come out and support us. The kids would love posters to help cheer them on too!
