Busy Bee Buzz

What a day!! The Bees had fun traveling to different first grade classes for some fun activities for the 100th day of school. Thank you to those that sent in items for our 100 snacks.

 

We have just finished our informational writing. The children were able to choose who they wanted to write about. They created a flow map as their writing plan and then began to write about Harriet Tubman, Thomas Jefferson, or Ben Franklin. Next we will be starting a unit on persuasive writing.

Next week we will start our study of Theodore Roosevelt. Your Bee will be bringing home a class project on either Tuesday or Wednesday with a letter explaining our "Traveling Teddy".

Happy New year to you and your family. It sounded like the Bees had a great vacation.We have a very busy January planned.

In Math we will continue working on money next week. We will focus on exchanging coins and trading money to get equal amounts. Some of the Bees have already learned the exchange game and the rest will be playing on Tuesday. Ask them to teach you the game.

 Our next author study will be Ezra Jack Keats. We will be doing a Readers Theater with one of his books "Dreams".

Dear Students and Parents,

The first ever Sope Creek Family Movie Night is coming on January 20, 2012.  It is being sponsored by the Student Council.  We will be showing The Smurfs and National Treasure 2.  Popcorn and drinks will be available for purchase, but you can BYOC (Bring Your Own Candy).  We will be expecting that you bring your parents because this is a family event – no drop offs, please.  So mark your calendar – January 20 7:00-9:00 in the cafeteria and the media center.  Optional donation for Must Ministries gladly accepted.

Busy Bee Buzz

The Bees had another busy week at school. We were able to meet Sacagawea and here some wonderful stories about her journey with Lewis and Clark. We will be adding them to our Immersion board next week.Thank you to the PTA for sponsoring "Being There" experience.

In Math we are working on flat and 3D shapes and will continue next week. We will be getting creative with toothpicks and gumdrops.

The Bees are looking forward to the holidays and a fun party next week.

There will be no homework next week. Just go on RAZ and ISL for practice.

The Bees joined the Butterflies and Alligators for hot chocolate and donuts while Ms. Appleyard read them The Polar Express. Thank you Ms. Appleyard!!!!

We also learned a littkle more about Lewis and Clark's Voyage of Discovery. We made keel boats and will be traveling on the Missouri River on Monday.

We have received first grade CogAT scores.  The vendor does not distribute individual score reports for students/parents.  If you would like a copy of your child's scores, please contact the teacher.

Dear Sope Creek Famiy.

We are holding our annual Holiday Bear gift card program and would like you to consider making a gift card donation to help our Sope Creek families during this holiday season. Bears with store and amount designations are posted on the main bulletin board in the school lobby.  Please consider helping by taking a bear and obtaining a gift card.  Gift cards can be returned to your child’s grade level counselor by December 15.  Your generosity will help to make this a brighter holiday for many of our children and their families.  Thank you in advance, and may each of you have a wonderful holiday.

The Bees have just finished their immersion board for Thomas Jeffererson. They were very excited about taking a tour of Monticello. They thought it would be a great field trip. So did I,but......Next week we will begin our study of Lewis and Clark.

I am sending home the Scholastic Book orders this weekend. Please send them back on Monday. I want to have all the books back to you before vacation. Thank you.

The Bees will need a large brown grocery bag to bring home all their projects before vacation. You can start sending them in now. We will need time to decorate them.

Busy Bee Buzz

The Bees loved how festive the cafeteria looked for their Thanksgiving lunch.We have a lot of pictures to put on our end of the year powerpoint.

In math we have been working on place value and estimating to the nearest ten. When we get back from vacation we will be skip counting and then we are on to money.

Tomorrow the children will be making Landform cookies. I don't know if they will make it home,but I will be taking pictures.

The Bees had a blast at High Touch High Tech! They told me all about it. Our class was split so I didn't get to participate.

Next week we begin our study of maps and globes. Then we're on to landforms.

Please have your child bring in a full roll of toilet paper next week for a fun Thanksgiving Day project.
