Today, we finished up our study of Horton. We shared our stories about him that we created. Dr. Seuss would have been so proud of our clever writing! We also learned about microscopes and looked at a "dust speck" under one. It really looked different from what we expected.
We examined the story of the Lorax and listened to another story called The Great Kapok Tree. We found that both stories were similar in many ways and yet, were different in many others. We created Venn diagrams to illustrate these similarities and differences. We talked about the importance of taking care of our natural resources. We also shared our "green deeds."
Homework: In Dr. Seuss's book about the Lorax, we never see any part of the Onceler except his arms and hands. Our homework is to think about the way Dr. Seuss drew his characters and to try to imagine how he would have drawn the Onceler. We are to complete the drawing of the Onceler the way we think Dr. Seuss would have drawn him, color it neatly, and be ready to share it with our classmates next week.
