December 16, 2011

We would like to wish all of you a joyous holiday season and best wishes for a happy and healthy new year.

Please note:  Target classes will resume the end of January once Target reevaluation testing is completed.  We look forward to welcoming many new students to our Target family in January when we will begin our new units,"Anurans on the Run" for 4th and 5th, and "The Heart" for 2nd and 3rd.

Week of December 12, 2011 (12/14)

Due to check-point testing in homeroom classes we had a late start.  Today was the last day of Target for this semester.  The art detectives were quite surprised about the outcome of our mystery Chasing Vermeer.  The epilogue helped put many of the puzzle pieces together.  Students were amazed at all the coincidences of the number 12.  We added our own that we finished the novel the week of 12/12. Some of the students with strong reading skills may be interested in the sequel of Carter's, Petra's, and Tommy's adventures in The Wright by Blue Balliett.  We ended the day with our mystery celebration and watched the movie The Great Mouse Detective.

Week of December 12, 2011

Due to check-point testing in homeroom classes, we had a late start this morning.Today was our last day of Target for this semester.  We put all our detective skills and knowledge together as we read through and answered questions to the Kids Discover Magazine "Detectives."  We had our mystery celebration and ended the day with the movie "The Great Mouse Detective." 

We want to wish all of you a joyous holiday season.  Due to Target reevaluation the beginning of January, we will not resume Target classes until the end of January with our new unit "The Heart."  Have a great winter break!

Week of December 5, 2011 (12/7)

The students were very excited today. Calder and Petra found the missing Vermeer painting, "The Lady Writing." Next week we will find out who the thief is, however, the student detectives have several hypotheses. Vocabulary this week was: ruthless, precariously, cavernous. Students demonstrated their growing logical analytical abilities with several logic puzzles and divergent abilities with a Gotta Think activity sheet.

The students in Mrs. Goldstein's and Ms. Boucher's classes finished sharing their wonderful mystery research projects.

Please note that next week will be our last Target class before the winter break.

Week of December 5, 2011

Along with working on a math activity and waker-upper, the final evidence came in today. The class assembled all their clues and solved the final logic problem. JEWEL WAS THE THIEF! She has our recipes. Students wrote an epilogue to our case, some are finishing this for homework.

Please note that next week will be our unit celebration and our last class meeting before Winter Break.
