Headline News:
- Thank you for the donations for the care packages to be sent to the soldiers. The Roosters out-did themselves! They also did a fabulous job writing their letters to them. I truly believe this has been one of the most meaningful service projects they have participated in and we are hopeful to read replies from them.
In Math, our unit is entitled: Congruent Figures and Measuring Area Volume & Capacity. The Essential Questions for the next 9 weeks are:
*How is the formula for measuring the area of a rectangle useful in finding the area of a parallelogram and triangle?
*Why is area measured in square units?
*How can I use vertices, sides and angles to help me determine the congruence of geometric figures?*What is the relationship between pi and the parts of a circle?
*What is the relationship between volume and capacity?
*Why is volume represented in cubic units?
IXL practice this week: Geometry section B.15-B.21.
In Social Studies, we continue chapter 10 which focuses on:
*economic growth and government policies of the 1920s
*impact of prosperity and new technology on U.S. society in the 1920s
*causes of the Great Depression and its effect on people
*the New Deal and its programs
The Chapter 10 test will be on Wednesday.
In Reading, we have begun our new book study, A Long Way from Chicago. This story adds rich details to our next Social Studies chapter which takes place over the nine years of the Depression. It tells the story of two young city slickers from Chicago that make an annual visit to their grandmother’s small rural town. Our reading focus is: “How do I apply great reading strategies?”
In English and Spelling, we will be on Sort 18 in Words Their Way. We move further into our study of Parts of Speech with a focus on verbs including action, main, helping, and linking verbs. Our writing will focus on informational writing.
In Science, we continue our next unit- Electricity & Magnetism which includes the essential questions:
*What is static electricity?
*What are conductors and insulators?
*What makes a circuit?
*What makes an electromagnet?
