SCHOOL SUPPLIES at EPIPACKS.COM DEADLINE MAY 15, 2013

The PTA will once again be selling pre-packaged school supply packs for the 2013-2014 school year through our supplier, Educational Products Incorporated (“EPI”). YOU MUST GO TO THE EPI WEBSITE TO ORDER A SCHOOL SUPPLY PACK.  The PTA cannot accept paper orders or personal checks for the packs.   YOU MUST PAY VIA CREDIT CARD AT THE EPI WEBSITE.  EPI will bulk-ship the supply packs to the school in June, so NO SEPARATE SHIPPING CHARGES THIS YEAR!!  The PTA will deliver all packs to the children’s classrooms before Meet & Greet.  ACT NOW!!  Go to www.epipacks.com and enter school code SOP001.  Follow the directions on the site to find the appropriate grade level supply list and complete your order.  If you have any problems with the ordering process, please contact Sara O’Dea at odeas@mac.com.   The window for ordering school supply packs from EPI will be open through May 15, 2013.   If you miss the deadline or would like to purchase the necessary school supplies yourself, please check the school blog over the summer for the school supply lists.

Chick-Fil-A Night

Tuesday, January 22nd is Sope Creek Night at the Chick-fil-A at Woodlawn Commons!  Please join us between 5:00 and 7:30 pm, have dinner, and support our school!  The class with the best turn-out will receive stuffed Chick-fil-A cows for every student!!!!

This month is hosted by Third Grade!  We'll see you there!

After School Enrichment Activities

We celebrate our eight Multiple Intelligences and the gifts that each student brings to Sope Creek.   In order to continue to enhance learning experiences beyond the classroom, The Sope Creek Foundation has increased our FAST (Foundation After School Time) offerings and is now offering registration online!  Sope Creek teachers are providing MANY new programs this spring in addition to Art and Chess offered by outside organizations.  Please see the variety of offerings below.  To find out about a particular course, click on the link or the graphic to register online.

Programs are filling up quickly, so don't hesitate to register and take advantage of these opportunities.  Each program requires separate registration.  In addition, all students that participate in any of the FAST activities MUST be registered for the Sope Creek After School Program.

Holiday Helper Bears

Counselor Service Project:  Holiday Helper Bears

Please help families in our own Sope Creek school community celebrate the holidays.  The holiday bears will be posted near the front office on Monday, December 3rd.  You can help our families by doing the following:

• Choose a holiday bear from the board.
• Purchase the designated gift card.
• Return your donation to any of the Counselors or front office by Friday, December 14th. 

If you cannot make it to the board to choose a bear, you can ask your child to do so OR you may send in a gift card for one of the following retailers:  Target, Wal-Mart, Kroger, or Publix. We appreciate your support and the way our community supports one another with the LIFESKILL of caring!

Welcome Back!

I hope everyone had a wonderful and relaxing Thanksgiving Holiday Break. Winter Holiday Break will be here before we know it.  We have many things to cover in class during this time. To review skills covered in class, we will also be working with the program My Skills Tutor for homework this year, in addition to the ixl.com math homework. This site includes great practice for reading, language arts and math content that we may cover in class or as review.  Your student may access their homework by going to the website: www.myskillstutor.com. I will be sending username, password information to gain access to this site the early part of this week. If you have any questions or concerns regarding the My Skills Tutor homework, please contact me via email.  I look forward to seeing all the kids soon!

Teacher Tag-Alongs

The Foundation sponsors Teacher Tag-Alongs:  auction items that are based on spending time with your favorite teacher(s).

Picture Day Info

Dear Parents,

We are excited to announce that we are working with a new picture company this year:  School Pictures of Georgia.  They have a 100% satisfaction guarantee with school pictures and will be at Sope Creek on Monday, October 1st to take professional portraits.  Every student will have their portrait made - and these are the images that will be in the yearbook on our class page.  A major difference from previous years:  picture packages will only be printed for students who pre-order them.  Order forms came home last week.  Students will need to present the order form at the camera.  We are excited about this new procedure, as it means a significant decrease in unwanted pictures being printed and eventually being returned and shredded. 

If your child is absent, picture retakes will be taken on November 1st.

If you need an additional order form, please send a note and I will have your child go to the office and get one.

Week of 9/24/12-9/28/12

We hope you all had a wonderful weekened enjoying our start to our Fall weather. We look forward to another great week at the Creek! Here's what we'll be covering for this week:

K-1 Reading/Language Arts:  Sight/Spelling Words for this week:

We will continue practicing finger tapping Consonant-Vowel-Consonant (CVC) words (ie. cap). I will send home a list of words that your child may practice at home this week. Your child should tap the index finger to the thumb for the first sound, tap the middle finger to the thumb for the middle sound, and the ring finger to the thumb for the last sound and then all fingers to the thumb and swipe to blend the words.

We will continue working on correct letter formations. Continue to practice using the last page of the blue folder as a guide. If you have a dry erase marker at home, have your child practice writing on the page.

2 Reading/Language Arts: In reading, we are focusing on the Social Studies content of learning our Georgia Regions and Rivers. In Writing, we will continue working on handwriting, and the conventions of writing: Capitalization at the beginning of the sentences, proper nouns; correct spacing between words, and appropriate punctuation. 

K Math: We will be reviewing numbers 0-10 this week. We will be sending home little take-home books for you and your child to review. Please continue to work on ixl.com for 5 minutes every night.
