P.E. Challenges/Awards
Fitness Assessment: The components of this year's fitness assessment are: Curls (abdominal strength/endurance), *Push-Ups (upper body strength), **Mile Run (cardiovascular fitness), ***Sit & Reach (flexibility). The link below has all of the standards for "B" (boys) and "G" (girls) grades 2-5.
*- Elbows must come to a right angle for each push-up to count.
**- 2nd and 3rd will run the 1/2 mile.
***- Start with both feet flat against a wall. How far can you reach while keeping your legs straight?
Creek Challenge: 4th and 5th grade students will have a chance to earn the "Cross the Creek" or "Jump the Creek" award to be presented at the end of this school year. Students must meet the standards in all 5 components to be eligible for an award. The standards are the same for 4th and 5th graders. The components include "Goals" (tests ability to control a soccer ball with your feet), "Ropes" (how many jumps can you do in one minute), "Wall-Catch" (how many times can you throw and catch a tennis ball off of the wall from a given distance in 30 seconds), "Cones" (measures agility), "Lay-Ups" (how many basketball lay-ups can you do in 30 seconds starting from behind the foul line each time)
