Why? It is very important you leave Sope Creek with a program for taking care of your body. The SCFC is a great program that you can use for the rest of your life! Why is it a good program? Because it has all four things a great fitness program MUST HAVE: a) measure your strength, cardio, flexibility, and core, b) be real, or easy to understand, c) use measurements that are also great work-outs, d) be easy to use - YOU ALREADY HAVE A SCFC GYM AT YOUR HOUSE! (it's called the floor :-))
Strength: We use push-ups to measure upper body strength. The video below shows Chad demonstrating proper form.
Standards for the SCFC Push-Ups
Cardio: We use the mile run to measure 4th and 5th grade cardio while 2nd and 3rd graders run the half mile. See the video below for Christian's tips on how to improve your time.
Standards for the SCFC Mile Run (2nd and 3rd grade run the 1/2)
Flexibility: We use the "wall test" to measure flexibility. The video below shows Cassandra demonstrating this "test".

Core: We use "the plank" to measure core strength. This picture of Jalen shows the proper body position for plank.

Separate from the SCFC, The Sope Creek Excellent Mile Program recognizes 4th and 5th graders who run the mile at least 30 seconds faster than the 5th grade platinum time. Thanks to the Sope Creek Foundation, students receive a t-shirt with the above design if they run an "Excellent Mile". SO FAR, the following students have earned an Excellent Mile t-shirt.
