Why? It is very important to Coach Hunt and Coach Maloney that Sope Creek PE is a place where you go to build your fitness while having a blast with your friends. To make this happen you must look out for others while taking care of yourself. Our rules are here to help you do this, so we can all get the most from PE.
-Students are expected to demonstrate the Sope Creek Lifeline Guidelines of Trustworthiness, Thruthfulness, Active Listening, No Put-Downs, and Personal Best in PE.
-Due to our limited indoor space, if the temperature is 40 degrees or warmer, students should expect to be outside.
-Students must be dressed appropriately for vigorous activity. This includes athletic shoes and shorts under dresses/skirts.
-Students unable to participate due to illness or injury must bring an excuse note from their doctor or parents.
Why? Learning The Best Creek Kid Skills opens a new world of cool games that make your body fit WHILE YOU PLAY! You don't have to be great at the skills - just good enough to have fun while you play :-) It's important to get physically fit when you're in elementary school because it's harder to do when you go to middle school.
When Coach Hunt and Coach Maloney plan your activities, they make sure there is a STRONG Cardiovascular Component (CVC) and you are able to maximize Repetitions Per Minute (RPM).
Why? It is very important you leave Sope Creek with a program for taking care of your body. The SCFC is a great program that you can use for the rest of your life! Why is it a good program? Because it has all four things a great fitness program MUST HAVE: a) measure your strength, cardio, flexibility, and core, b) be real, or easy to understand, c) use measurements that are also great work-outs, d) be easy to use - YOU ALREADY HAVE A SCFC GYM AT YOUR HOUSE! (it's called the floor :-))
Strength: We use push-ups to measure upper body strength. The video below shows Chad demonstrating proper form.
Standards for the SCFC Push-Ups
Cardio: We use the mile run to measure 4th and 5th grade cardio while 2nd and 3rd graders run the half mile. See the video below for Christian's tips on how to improve your time.
Standards for the SCFC Mile Run (2nd and 3rd grade run the 1/2)
Flexibility: We use the "wall test" to measure flexibility. The video below shows Cassandra demonstrating this "test".
Standards for the SCFC Flexibility Test
Core: We use "the plank" to measure core strength. This picture of Jalen shows the proper body position for plank.

Separate from the SCFC, The Sope Creek Excellent Mile Program recognizes 4th and 5th graders who run the mile at least 30 seconds faster than the 5th grade platinum time. Thanks to the Sope Creek Foundation, students receive a t-shirt with the above design if they run an "Excellent Mile". SO FAR, the following students have earned an Excellent Mile t-shirt.

Parallel Programs
(Body Shop, Sunrise, Kick Start, OT)
Why? You do better in class when you're physically fit, especially when you get a cardio work-out before you sit down at your desk. See, your bain is kind of like the internet - made up of circuits that handle all your information. When you work cardio before class you turn up the speed of the internet between your ears - your brain :-).
