Calling all parents and friends of Sope Creek!!  Our annual career day is scheduled for March 4th from 8:30-11:30am.  Please consider being a part of this exciting day by volunteering be a speaker.  Speakers do not have to be here the entire day and will be given an exact schedule.  No career is too big or little!

* All students are encouraged to participate in giving and receiving Valentines.  We will have a celebration with treats.  Every student has a class list in their blue folder.  Also, it would be helpful is everyone brought in a large ziplock baggie for their cards and goodies.

Please check to see what number time test your student is on.  Our goal was to reach #20 by the holiday break.  These tests are given in 1 minute to increase fluency and accuracy.  It is extremely important for your child to have mastered multiplication facts, as we are moving into division.  This week the students will understand the relationship between multiplication and division.  They will begin practicing division facts.  Test on Friday; Harcourt Chapter 11.

Social Studies

The students will learn about rules, rights, and responsibilities.  They will also learn about local, state and national leaders.

Mustang’s have been reading about Christmas Around the World.  We have written a compare/contrast essay on Christmas in the

The students will read Centerfield Ballhawk.  This story is a realistic fiction piece about a little boy who does not want to disappoint his father.  In the end, he realizes he is a “hit” with his father as a player and a person.

Grammar

Review singular and plural pronouns.  Introduce subject pronouns.

Math

Keep practicing your multiplication facts especially 6,7,& 8’s. 

We will be using bar graphs and multiplication to problem solve.  Test on Chapter 9 Friday.

Congratulations!

Too… last weeks STAR STUDENTS:  Annabelle and Ali.  They showed outstanding citizenship by having no marks on their behavior contracts.  Star Students demonstrate leadership by conducting class meetings.  They are recognized in the classroom and wear cowboy hats as a symbol of pride.

Academics

Language Arts

  Our Language Arts block includes whole class instruction on; My Name is Maria Isabel, Grammar skills will include plural and singular possessive nouns. Concepts will include using a graphic organizer, story elements, drawing conclusions and authors purpose. 

  Skill groups will be reading leveled informational text pertaining to bats and owls.

  During writer’s workshop, the students will be writing a compare and contrast informative on bats and owls.

Math

Understanding Time.

We will finish chapter 6 and test understanding time. We will continue working on multiplication and basic division.

Science

The Mustangs are growing grass and comparing the results of clay soil and top soil.  We will begin learning about heat, how thermal energy moves and how temperature is measured.

Please send in an instant hot chocolate mix for an experiment on conductors.
