Wandering Wednesday
Students engaged in a "Being There Experience" or study trip on Wednesday morning. The purpose of a Being There Experience is to give students background knowledge on a topic of study. It is different from a traditional field trip because it is taken at the beginning of a unit of study and students are given a specific purpose and meaningful assignment to complete.
Primary students went to Home Depot in search of magnets and magnetism. They learned from several resident experts including Mr. B., Nathan the Makita Tool expert, and the employees of Home Depot. Student pictures of magnets from the trip can be found here: Download Primary Being There Pictures

Intermediate students spent time in the garden with Seth and Nichole and Farmer Joe from Seeds of Nutrition learning about survival.
Middle School Students went to Super Wal-Mart in search of characteristics in a variety of fruits and vegetables. They also observed human characteristics that they would later use to discuss genetics and probability. Thanks, Taylor, for the photographs of produce and of the experience!
