Model Teaching Week 2009 started out with a bang! Over 100 teachers (grades K through 8) from all over Cobb County met at Sope Creek to embark on a week-long immersion in the Highly Effective Teaching (HET) Model. Six learning spaces are available to participants, and each space is led by a Model Teacher or Consultant. Spaces and leaders are:
* Elementary Stage 1: Ellen Auchenpaugh
* Middle School Stage 1: Dean Tannewitz
* Elementary Stage 2: Linda Jordan
* Primary Classroom: Sheila Lade
* Intermediate Classroom: Alisa Braddy
* Middle School Classroom: TJ Mears
The focus of Day 1 include creating the physical environment of the classroom and learning about the purpose and intention behind each item that is placed in a classroom. Stage 1 participants focus primarily on the physical and emotional environment. Stage 2 participants focus on curriculum writing and how the enviornment can help them fully engage all of the students' senses to allow them to reach their maximum learning potential. Throughout the day, participants get to watch a teacher set up a classroom, and to get ready for students all in a single day!
