Magician's Memo- Week of October 29th

Language Arts-The Magician's will read the short story "M & M and the Mummy Mess." After reading the story, they will answer reading comprehension questions and complete a vocabulary activity. The Magicians will also participate in a Halloween guide word activity using the dictionary. Plural nouns will be reviewed. Adjectives will be introduced. Spelling words this week will have a "long o" sound. The Magicians are working on a power writing about New Echota. They really learned a lot and took in so much information! Topic sentences and closing sentences are still a challenge for the Magicians to come up with independently. We will continue to work on this in the classroom!

Math-There will be a Chapter 7 math test on Friday, November 2nd. We will begin our subtraction facts this week. The Magicians will learn how to find differences using a number line. We will work on fact families to show how addition and subtraction relate to each other.

Social Studies-We will continue learning about the Plains and the Eastern Woodlands Indians.The Magicians are enjoying learning about these Native Americans and their way of life.

                                   "The First Thanksgiving Play"

Mark your calendars!!! Our Thanksgiving Play will be on Thursday, November 15th at 8:30 AM.The Magicians will receive their play parts on Tuesday. They will bring their parts home so they can start to memorize them. Please work with your Magician on memorizing their parts. They need to remember to speak in a loud, clear voice! The Magicians need to bring their play parts back to school DAILY!!! Thank you for your support!

Magician's Memo-Week of October 22nd

Well here it is, my first blog! My goal is to be "blogging" more now so please be patient!!!

Language Arts: The Magicians will read the short story "Coyote" this week.  While reading the story, we will focus on the 5 W's :(Who, What, When, Where, Why) together as we retell important events in the story.They will complete a story map and take a comprehension test. Spelling words will have a long "i" sound. Plural nouns will be reviewed. We will practice writing sentences with our spelling words. The Magicians will work on stretching out their sentences and making them sound more interesting. 

Math: We will continue working on adding two digit numbers with regrouping. learning how to round numbers by using a number line and make estimates. In addition, we will focus on the +10 facts.

Social Studies: We will begin our Native American Unit. The Magicians will learn about the Plains Indians, all about their environment, natural resources, lifestyles and customs. Later, we will compare their life to the Eastern Woodlands Indians.

Smart Kids for Smart Boards: October began the Sope Creek Foundation's letter campaign asking parents to join together and raise money for Smartboards to have in classrooms! At the moment, we are using the smartboards occasionally and sharing it with eight classrooms. It would be great if parents could donate any amount, big or small. Don't forget, it is a TAX DEDUCTION!!! We are looking to find corporate sponsors as well! Remember... you can MAKE A DIFFERENCE and make a contribution!!!

FYI- The beginning of November, the Magicians will get their play parts for our play, The First Thanksgiving. The Magicians should practice their parts daily and make sure they say them in a loud, clear voice! The date of our play will be sent home later in the week so you can mark it on your calendars!
