Parents, please remember that our policy for illness is for your child to be fever-free for 24 hours before sending the child back...that means if they have a fever in the evening before they go to bed, they are not fever-free until the next evening. I know that school attendance is very important, however, when your child is sick, a fever is one sign of the illness being contagious. Please be considerate of other children and adults, and help keep the germs at a minimum by keeping a sick child home. I have just finished a full 7 days of the flu (fevers of 101-102, chills, sweats, coughing, congestion and all-out misery!) and one of the reasons I stayed out so long (besides still having a 101 fever last night) is that I didn't want to pass this scourge to anyone else! Also, please remember to send a written note expressing that your child was ill so we can mark the absence "excused." Thanks for helping us try to keep our little ones well.

Thanks so much to everyone for all the fabulous gifts, flowers, treats, food, and kind words during Teacher Appreciation week. The luncheon on Friday was wonderful and having moms come in to sit
with the kids gave us the opportunity to actually chew our food before swallowing:-) Thank you so much for making us feel so loved and appreciated!
Where's Leo????
Leopards have been missing Leo, our classroom Leopard. Don't worry, Leo's been on an extended vacation at the Lowrie home visiting the Build-a-Bears who live there...sort of like a "family reunion." Leo will be back next week, ready to begin his second round of visitations with his classmates. Check out the pictures below to see what Leo's been up, and he just can't wait to share his journal on Monday morning!
With Valentine's Day quickly approaching, here are some reminders:
Please remember to bring in your decorated box tomorrow! Also, your child may bring in Valentines to share with all classmates. Just have your child sign their name to the little cards, but do not put any names on the outside. That makes it easier for them to just go down the row of boxes and drop them in. We have 18 students in our class. Thanks!

Mark your calendars for March 15 and join us at Sope Creek for our Fun Run!
It's a great family event to enter and a great way to welcome warmer weather. It will be held from 9am to 12pm. There will be class and grade level contests this year as well!
Art Day is Friday, Feb. 1st. Each grade level is requested to wear a certain color shirt for a special project that day...
K - white
1 - black
2- white
3 - black
4 - white
5 - black
SP ED - homeroom color
SID PID - white
Please send your shirt in by Wednesday so we can be sure everyone has one (it's a good idea to put your child's name in it somewhere - all those whites and blacks look the same when you're trying to figure out whose is whose!)

Conferences are next week as well as Early Dismissal at 12:20 every day. Be sure to give yourself plenty of time to find a parking place (it's at a premium!) and time to get to the classroom (we're all the way at the back of the school and it takes a while to get there from the front doors!) so we can begin our conferences on time. Most of the conferences are back to back, and I need to be able to give everyone the time they are expecting. Thank you ahead of time for your consideration! I am looking forward to meeting with all of you annd sharing all about your childrens' progress this year:-)
Important Topics This Week:
Tuesday is dedicated to learning about Martin Luther King, Jr.
Wednesday is the 100th Day of School!!!
Thursday is the 101st Day of School. (Remember to wear black and white)
Friday is Gravity Day.
The Scholastic Book Fair is coming to Sope Creek next week! Please plan to visit the book fair when you come in for conferences, or any afternoon next week after dismissal. There are always a ton of wonderful selections to choose from!
As the 100th Day quickly approaches, we are still collecting canned food to count and donate to the homeless. Our class is falling behind as other
classes already have 100 cans or more - we have only 1/4 that amount. Please, let's all increase our efforts and send in some more cans by Wednesday so we can meet our goal of 100 cans!

Please remember to return the Parent-Teacher Conference form to confirm that the time I've assigned to you will work. If the time is not convenient for you, please let me know another day that would be better. Thanks! I look forward to seeing you all.
