Week of Aug. 29 - Sept. 2

 We have had a great week in the Leopard room this week! Who knew learning could be so much fun?  The Leopards have been learning about what makes them each special as we talked about "All About Me"; we continued to practice our Fundations Keyword sounds with Echo the Owl; we met Mr. M - Munching Mouth, and today we made Mr. M's Marvelous Macaroni!  Yum!  Thanks to everyone who sent in the ingredients for that!  In Math we began practicing forming our numbers correctly and even had homework...today we graphed M & M's (we sure eat a lot in here!)  We also began getting pledges for the Boosterthon...working as a team we have already earned extra recess, Stuffed Animal Day, and Shoe-off Day!  Our next team incentive to reach is Lunch Outside on the picnic tables.  Parents, thank you so much for helping your little ones get pledges!  They are so proud of themselves!

HOMEWORK????

The Leopards have been working very hard this week learning new skills!  Today they are bringing home homework to reinforce what we have been working on:

 

1. "My Mm Book" - Please have your child read this to you tonight.  Reinforce pointing to  each work as they read.  Assist as needed - give lots of praise for efforts!  Please keep these books in a special place for rereading.
2. "Number Two" - We practiced making the number two today.  Please have your  child complete the worksheet for practice as we try very hard to make our numbers correctly.  Ask them to show you how we "sit" for writing and what the grip should look like.  Directions are on the bottom of both sides of the page.
3. Boosterthon:  Our challenge today was to try and get a pledge from another state!  Plus, we have earned two rewards as a team!  The first reward is extra recess, which we will have tomorrow.  The other reward is Stuffed Animal Day, which we will also do tomorrow.  Your child may bring in one stuffed animal for the day - it must fit in your child's backpack.

Boosterthon is On!!!

Calling all Leopards....time to get pledges for the Boosterthon Fun Run to raise money for school! And remember, 10% of what you raise goes directly to our class! We had our Pep Rally today and we're ready to go!

Today was Crazy Hat Day!  Loook at some of the crazies we had...

    
  

This week has been so much fun!  One of the things we did was try and hunt the Gingerbread Boy...that rascal sent us all over school following clues, and we finally ended back in our classroom where we discovered he had left us cookies!  To celebrate our successful completion of the first week, we decided to use our Math skills and mixing skills and make our own gingerbread cookies!  Take a look...

  First, we read the recipe.

  Then we washed our hands.

 Next, we set out everything we would need.

 Then we stirred and mixed and rolled...

 ...and rolled some more...

 ...and some more...

 ...and put them all on cookie sheets!  10 minutes later, YUM!!!

 

Crazy Hat Day!!!

 

 

To help kick off our Boosterthon fundraiser, we are having a "Crazy Hat Day" tomorrow.  Students may wear a crazy hat to school (if they want to) to show school spirit and support.  Please go to the Sope Creek blog to see a video on the Boosterthon.  Thanks!

Open House Attachments

Parents, thanks to everyone who was able to make it to our Kindergarten Open House!  It was great seeing you and getting to talk to you about our classroom.  I'm posting the power point for Open House and the one for the first day of school pictures below.  Please remember to check back this weekend for the Newsletter and blog updates to see what we'll be up to next week!

First Day Reminders!

 

It was great to meet everyone at Meet and Greet on Thursday!  I can't wait to see all my new Leopards on Monday morning!!! 

Here are a few reminders:

1. Wear the name tag that you were given for the first day.
2. Remember to bring a snack.
3. You are encouraged to bring a water bottle!  Please label with your child's name.
4. If you are not bringing a lunch from home, please make sure you have money in your lunch account or bring it in an envelope marked with the child's name and its purpose.
5. Bring a regular size bath towel for rest time.  (No beach towels please)
6. Tennis shoes are best for the playground.  Girls, if you wear a skirt or dress it's a good idea to wear some shorts underneath, especially if you have PE.
7. Your child will be coming home on Monday afternoon with a large bus tag around their neck.  Please have them wear that tag back to school the next morning - I'd like to do this every day the first week!

2. For any Kindergarten parents whose children are not riding the bus and you are dropping off at the classroom door, there will be "Tea and Sympathy" with the counselors in the Media Center.  Stop by for comfort and company!

Last names beginning with A - L: your child will travel to specials with Mrs. Gordon's Gummy Bears.  Here is your rotation to follow:

Day 1 - PE    Day 2 - STEM    Day 3 - Music    Day 4 - PE    Day 5 - PE   

 Day 6 - Art    Day 7 - PE

Last names beginning with M - Z: your child will travel to specials with Mrs. Hinz's Hummingbirds.  Here is your rotation to follow:

Welcome New Leopards!!!

Welcome to Kindergarten to all my new Leopards!  I am really looking forward to our year together and getting to know each other!  There is a LOT to do in Kindergarten and we will have so much fun learning this year!  Get ready for a fun first week...get lots of good rest and eat a good breakfast every morning so your brain will be ready to go:-)

Meet & Greet Times

Times are based on the first letter of your child's last name.  This allows teachers to spend quality time with each family and helps with parking.

 9:30 am - F - K
10:20 am - L - Q
11:00 am - A - E
11:40 am - R - Z

In addition to Meet & Greet, we will also hold two Open Houses:  one for primary grades and one for intermediate grades.  Open House is an adult-only evening when teachers explain procedures, curriculum, and grade-level specific information.
