Practice those phone numbers and addresses! Your child brought home a little phone book this past week that they made in centers.  It contains emergency numbers, their own phone number, and their own address.  Starting this coming week, I will be asking them to recite their phone number and address to me Pizza (including the zip-code).  When they can do that, they will decorate a slice of pizza to go on our big pizza on the wall (we have a pizza for the girls and a pizza for the boys, just for some fun competition).  When both pizzas are full, we will have a pizza party one afternoon instead of rest.  Let's all work hard on memorizing those very important numbers and addresses!

Picture

Thanks to so many of you for returning the pictures or money so quickly!  Let's be the first class in our grade level to have everyone return either the pictures or money so we can win extra supply money for our class!

Pizza

Pizza Party!!!

Ask your child how our class will earn a pizza party in the weeks to come...as we study our community, we are focusing on learning our phone numbers and addresses.  When your child can tell me their phone number and address (plus the zipcode) they will earn a slice of pizza to put on our classroom pizza.  When the pizzas are full and everyone has demonstrated their knowledge, we will have a pizza party one afternoon!

We went to the Media Center today where Mrs. Schultz-Suggs read a story to us and gave us an "orientation" of checking out books.  Then we browsed and checked out books!  These books will be due in one week, but can be turned in earlier.

Letter Books: Once a week your child will be bringing home a Letter Book that they have made during Bookworm reading group with me.  Help your child point to each word as they read it to you.  You will notice that the sentences and words are "marked up" as we separate words, identify high-frequency words, identify words that begin with our target letter sound, and discuss punctuation.

Spotlight

In the Spotlight This Week:

Adam Chen will bring home Leo the Leopard for the weekend.  Leo will spend time with Adam and his family doing and going wherever they go. Adam will write in Leo's journal before returning on Monday to tell the class what he has been up to over the weekend with Leo!  We will also get a glimpse of Adam's poster  and pictures when he returns on Monday morning.

Eyes Parents...please look to the left of this weblog and notice that you can sign up for automatic email updates when I make new posts!  Please enter your email (I just did it for my 3 kids' classes!) so you won't miss any important news!

Attention Parents!!!  Please have an extra change of clothes (including socks and underwear) in your child's backpack as a precaution.  We have had a few "accidents" and I want every child to be able to feel comfortable in their own clothes.

SHOES - One thing I have noticed about the children is their feet (maybe Race because we've been studying "Ff" this week with Mr. Funny Feet).  In Kindergarten it really is best to wear tennis shoes with socks on a daily basis.  We are on the playground daily, and the children are not allowed to climb on the equipment without proper tennis shoes.  Also, with all the dirt and mulch, shoes like crocs and sandles are very dangerous and uncomfortable.  Please send your child in tennis shoes and socks if at all possible (especially on PE days!)Treasure_chest_2

A big thank you to Ty Holder for bringing in stuffed animals for our treasure box!  Over half the class got to pick out of the treasure box this week because of great behavior and staying on the green stoplight the entire week!  Next week we're aiming our sights high and trying for 100%!  Let's continue to reward the children's great behavior with small items for the box - if you can send in any small reward items (such as dollar store stuff) we would appreciate it so much:-)
