Week of 2/25/08
Do doubt about, the Greyhound parents are the BEST!!! Thank you so ver much for the gift cards, cards, lunches, pies, and plants. Mrs. Wood and I felt very much loved and appreciated. We are so thankful that we have incredible students and wonderful parents, too! It is truly our pleasure to teach your children. They are a special group of talented individuals. Thanks to all the moms that helped us on Friday and throughout the week. The PTA provided a wonderful lunch for all the teachers at Sope Creek. We had a very nice lunch. Thanks to all parents who helped us this week and made us feel so special. We truly can't do all of this without your help. We are truly thankful and humbled by this show of love!
Our presentations on Famous African Americans/Presidents were just simply wonderful! Mrs. Wood and I got goosebumps listening to the presentations. Boy, some of our Greyhounds went above and beyond! EVERYBODY, did a fabulous job. I will be burning DVDs for all the parents so that you may enjoy the presentation. The posters and the handouts are magnificient. I will be photographing the posters and putting the pictures up on the blog. Thanks to all the parents who worked with their child and to those boys and girls who did this project on their own. I am so PROUD OF ALL THE GREYHOUNDS. This was a tough assignment and you guys did it!
We just completed the chapter on Fractions and we learned so much, too! We did a great job on the test, too. This week we will concentrate on decimals. We will figure out tenths and hundredths. We will also add and subtract decimals. Here is the homework for the week:
Monday: RW 108 RW 21.1 Fractions and Decimals
Tuesday: RW 109 RW 21.2 Tenths
Wednesday: RW 110 RW 21.3 Adding Decimals
Thursday: RW 111 RW 21.4 Subtracting Decimals
We will also have a Challenge handout. I will distribute it on Monday.
It will include CW 108, CW 109, CW 110, and CW 111
We will begin a new story this week. Nature's Great Balancing Act. This is story is straight from our anthology textbook. We will concentrate on /a/ and /be/ words. We will also work on summarizing the literature, vocabulary from the story, and comparing and contrasting.

PLEASE PLAN ON ATTENDING...IF YOU HAVE READ TO THE CLASS, DONATED ITEMS TO OUR CLASSROOM, HELP OUT BY BEING A COPY CAT OR ANY OTHER WONDERFUL THINGS YOU HAVE DONE FOR THE SCHOOL OR ME, PLEASE ATTEND THIS LUNCHEON. This is the last week of social studies. Make sure you bring in the play dough that Mr. Dunn created. The students will be making landforms! Also, be sure to check the binder for social studies study guides and test dates! BE SURE TO WORK ON YOUR PROJECT FOR THE PRESIDENT/AFRICAN AMERICAN PROJECT.
WE WILL HAVE A VALENTINE CARD EXCHANGE IN THE CLASSROOM. WE WILL ALSO GRAPH, SORT, AND IDENTIFY DIFFERENT HEARTS IN MATH! WE WILL HAVE VALENTINE'S DAY ACTIVITIES IN THE MORNING. SOCIAL STUDIES: Mr. Dunn continues to teach from Chapter 2 and Chapter 3 from the textbook. Students are learning about the different types of maps---physical maps and political maps.
