Week of 12/17/07

PLEASE BRING IN YOUR HOLIDAY GIFT EXCHANGE.  THEY ARE DUE ON MONDAY, DECEMBER 17TH!  THE BOOK MUST BE WRAPPED.  I HAVE ONLY RECEIVED A FEW.

READING:  We will continue with Lon Po Po.  We have many activities to finish up with that story!  There are no spelling words this week!

MATH:  We will continue with Chapter 16 Geometry.  In order to be successful in geometry, we must learn many terms.  We will be creating a book of definitions with examples this week.  The homework package will be distributed on Monday. 

WE ARE IN NEED OF LYSOL DISINFECTING SPRAY.  IF YOU COULD PLEASE MAKE A DONATION TO OUR CLASS, IT WOULD BE APPRECIATED.

Week of 12/10/07

We will have many fun activities this week.  For one, we will be starting our art project this week! Two, we will have a visiting author--Carmen Deedy visit this coming Thursday.  Three, we will have the AR party for the month on December 14th!  We will also be taking mid-year tests in math to measure growth thus far! 

WE ARE IN MUCH NEED OF LYSOL DISINFECTING SPRAY.  WE ARE ALL OUT OF THIS WONDERFUL SPRAY.  WE DO HAVE LYSOL WIPES AND WE USE THEM EVERY OTHER DAY.  IF YOU CAN SPARE A CAN OR TWO, PLEASE BRING THEM IN NEXT WEEK!  THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH FOR YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT. I CAN'T DO IT WITHOUT YOU!!  MANY THANKS!

THANKS ALSO FOR THE CONTINUED SUPPORT WITH THE SMARTBOARD CAMPAIGN.  WE NOW HAVE A TOTAL OF 6 FAMILIES IN OUR CLASS THAT HAVE SUPPORTED THIS WONDERFUL CAMPAIGN.  MANY THANKS!!

Our story this week will be Lon Po-Po.  This is a red-riding hood story from China translated and illustrated by Ed Young.  We will study vocabulary, summarizing the literature, object pronouns, synonyms and antonyms, sequence of a story, and of course, spelling words.

Our spelling words pattern this week is words with /or/ sound.  Here they are:

We will learn what is a line, point, line segment, ray, angle, acute angles, and obtuse angles. We will learn about types of lines like intersecting lines and plane figures like polygon, quadrilateral, pentagon, hexagon, and octagon. We will also learn about the different types of triangles. Lots to cover!

Reading

We will begin a new story from our anthology--Centerfield Ballhawk. Our lessons this week will be understanding the vocabulary, summarizing the literature, subject pronouns, sequence, comparing and contrasting, and our spelling patterns for this week which are /ar/ sounds.

Math

In math, we will continue with Chapter 11--Division.

We will continue to work on understanding the relationship between division and multiplication, as well as the relationship between division and subtraction.  Continue to study the multiplication facts from 0-12 and division facts from 0-9.  This is a big part of this chapter.  We have watched division videos and played division games to help us understand this concept.  Here is the homework for the week:

Tuesday--RW56-- Subtraction/Division

Wednesday--RW57--Multiplication/Division

Thursday---RW58--Fact Families

Be prepared to take timed tests in multiplication and division.
