ITBS Testing

I want to commend the class with how well they managed the Cogats this past week.  Everyone came in, followed directions, and put in their best effort.  I know they will do the same for our week-long tests next week!

Attached is the newsletter for next week.

Standardized Testing

As you all know we will begin standardized testing this week.  On Wednesday and Thursday the class will take the Cogat, while each morning next week (October 1-5) they will take the Iowa Test of Basic Skills.  Testing will begin promptly each day at 8:00.  Please make sure your child is here on time; if they are late they will have to wait in the Media Center until testing is completed and then have to do a make up session.

As always we want to encourage everyone to try and get a good night's sleep before testing.  A good breakfast is a must!  Please send your child with a snack to enjoy during testing breaks.  Thanks!

Math Test

I had every intention of giving the math test on Wednesday, but after seeing the testing schedule I am moving the test to Friday.  Testing is going to run about an hour and a half Wednesday and Thursday.  Please disregard the newsletter for math.  Sorry!

Picture retakes

The school will have picture retakes on October 4.  If you are interested in having one done please return the pictures you received yesterday.  We will also have pictures again in February, and these will include the class picture.

Attached is the newsletter and spelling words for next week.  Have a great weekend!

From the Desk of Mrs. Lance...

Greetings Dominoes,

We have a Science test this week on Rocks, Minerals, and Fossils. Don't wait until Wednesday night to study! Aside from being a good listener and staying involved in our Science lessons at school, here are some tips on how to study nightly:

- Look over any classwork in your binder, especially the graphic organizer.

- Read C section in Science book paying careful attention to highlighted vocabulary and questions for each chapter.

- Use study guide that was sent home today.

I'm sure everyone will do a super job!

The class is humming, routines are learned, academics are being stressed; could it be . . .

The end of the honeymoon???

I am beginning to have a rash of students not getting their homework turned in the following day.  Please review their plan books when they get home and help me get them a little more organized by getting their homework completed and turned in to me.  The spelling homework also needs to be signed before they turn it in on Friday.  I realize that some of this may be nit-picky but the amount of responsibility and homework that will be placed on these guys will be enormous in fourth grade.  Organization starts early - don't let them end up like me!!!

Next week the students will be coming home with four copies of addition facts practice.  Each page has 100 problems.  The idea is that the students should do one of these practice tests each day before we have the real one on Friday.  The students should only have five minutes to complete each practice test.  We are looking for 90% accuracy on these tests.  It's show time!

Thinking ahead:  Our first early release day is coming up on September 19.  The students will be dismissed from school at 12:20.  Please be thinking about childcare arrangements.
