Next Thursday, March 27 is HAT DAY! Students may wear a hat to school that day if they make a $1.00 donation to Relay for Life. Last month many students supported this important cause that works hard researching a cure for cancer.
We are going to have to work hard to catch up after all of this time off. Please make sure that your dragon has finished their homework sent home on Monday. Also, make sure that they have gone onto IXL and finish all second grade time and money lessons. I will check the report from IXL on Sunday.
We will continue secret pals on Wednesday and then reveal with a homemade valentine on Thursday. We will also exchange valentines on Thursday.
I will review reading logs on Friday and with all of the days off expect to see everyone with 1,000 minutes.
Our spelling test on sort 23 will be on Thursday with spirals due too. Our tests on -9's will be Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Please have your child finish their timed test challenge and bring it in when we return. Our tests on these will be in 2 weeks.
Next plays for our class will take place on Thursday, March 27th at 8:30AM. Parts will come home next week. Please make sure you check for them as some parts are lengthy.
Mrs. Seemann will be back with us on Wednesday for guided reading. If you have a valentine card for her, please bring it on Wednesday.
What a crazy week!!! I feel it is necessary for me to write you all and let you know how things will progress next week.
First of all, keep studying your 8's as we will test again on Monday and Wednesday. We will work 2 more days on telling time, so please practice at home, as we will not be able to spend alot more time on that very important standard. Work at home, by showing mom or dad how to count by 5's with your minute hand to read the time. Review the hour hand's placement in seeing what hour it is. In the middle of the week, we will start on counting money.
Your reading log for January is due on Monday, and then you will receive your February log. Short turn around on February, but for January with you receiving it before Christmas, and then all of these snow days, I am definitely assuming you will have over 1,000 minutes. Books will be awarded and extra chance for prize jar, which will be drawn on Monday.
I have not heard if we can be rescheduled for our Tellus trip. We will continue on star studies and the moon this week. Then on to shadows. Please look up a constellation that you are interested in learning about. You will have an assignment about that this week.
Behavior reports will be combined for last week and this coming week, so will not come home until the 10th.
Secret pal names will be passed out tomorrow!!!!!! We will do secret pals on the 10th and 11th and then reveal on the 12th. We will also exchange valentines on the 12th, so you may want to prepare those this weekend.
Monday we will go into the cafeteria to see where we will stand on stage for our parts in the Patriotic Play. Make sure that you know your lines and will need to say them really loud, as the mikes are not as strong as we would like. Remember to be in our classroom Thursday night at 6:30PM in costume. See your paper on the play to review what you are wearing.
Spelling will stay the same....test on Thursday and checking of your spiral on Thursday too.
Lots of days off, but now we are going to have to work really hard to catch up!!!! Looking forward to seeing you all on Monday!!!!!
School Fundraiser – Kung Fu Panda Movie Night Our Partner in Education, Marietta Martial Arts, is offering a Parent's Night Out for Sope Creek students. 100% of the proceeds will be donated back to Sope Creek! The event will be on Friday, January 17th from 6-9:30 pm at MMA's Lower Roswell location. Students will play exciting Kung Fu Panda themed games, eat pizza, and can come dressed as their favorite character. MMA will donate all of the fees back to Sope Creek and the cost is only $20 for the 1st family member, $10 for the second, and $5 for the third or more. All Sope Creek students are invited to join in the fun!
I am hoping that you had a wonderful break like I did, and that you have read lots of books and gathered lots of minutes!!!!
We will start out the semester reading a book together called Beryl, A Pig's Tale. It will connect very well with our social studies unit on Martin Luther King, Jr.
Our new types of writing will be opinion writing and a fun creative type called R.A.F.T.ing. You will love it!!!! Speaking of writing, please bring in an addressed stamped envelop the first week back. We will be writing a thank you letter to someone who gave you a present for the holidays, so please address the envelop to them.
Remember we talked about the importance of returning homework and projects and other things on time. Please talk to your parents about our new requirements. When something is assigned, it is due on the day it is due. We are really going to work on the life skills of responsibility and doing our personal best this second semester.
In math we will use equations called Start, Change, Result to help us solve math thought problems. Have you been practicing on IXL during the break? I will show you my report on Tuesday. SOMEONE is our class has many hours of IXL recorded!!!!!!! Try to catch her!!!!! Remember second grade math only, unless I have talked to you about going further.
I miss you all and look forward to seeing you on Tuesday. You know that I hate snow, so I hope that I do not have to get out those inclement weather forms!!!! If we have to leave school early, I follow what your mom wrote on those forms to send you home. If mom forgot, have her email me, and I will let her know what she wrote on the form.
Ok, Dragons!!! We have been challenged by Ms. Appleyard!!!! She is challenging Sope Creek on Walk to School Day...October 9th. We will watch the challenge video tomorrow!!! Let's not let Mt. Bethel beat us on this!!!!
On Wednesday our first day back, see if you can walk to school. If you live too far away, buddy up with a friend who lives close to Sope Creek. See if Mom can drop you off at their house and walk with them.
Nathan and Isabelle live in Sibley Forest. Abbey lives in Fox Hills. Jack lives in Somerset. Can you four help us with this????
Do not let Ms. Appleyard beat us on this first challenge.
Oh yes, if you walk to school on that day, I will give you a free homework pass or 10 chances for our prize jar!!!!!
