Jekyll Island Here We Come!

"Jekyll Island...Here We Come!"

Dear Parents,

Please have your child at Sope Creek at 5:15 A.M. on Wednesday, November 28. Departure time is 5:30 A.M. sharp. Students should come to the side of the school where we park the buses. Please do not park in the bus parking lot. Students will know what bus they are riding, and all buses will be marked. Please label sleeping bags and suitcase with first and last name, bus number, and phone number. Place your child’s suitcase and sleeping bag on the ground next to their bus, kiss your child goodbye, and trust us to take good care of them! Once you have said your goodbyes, children will get on the bus. All medication will be given to the chaperones during roll call on the bus. This includes all prescription and over-the-counter medication you send with your child. Some parents may choose to send Tylenol, Tums, or Dramamine. All medication, dosage information, and their medical form need to be in a Ziploc bag. Students with asthma and allergies must have their inhaler/kits with them at all times. Fanny-packs are a great way to keep up with these items. Students may take a pillow and a small bag containing a book, paper, pencils, card games, small travel games, etc. NO ELECTRONICS ARE ALLOWED ON THE TRIP. The buses are equipped with VCRs and DVDs. If your child wishes to bring a PG or G rated movie, make sure his/her name and teacher’s name are clearly marked on the movie.

Please feed your child breakfast at home before they come to school, and don’t send any food with them. We will not be stopping for a snack for several hours, and no food is allowed on the buses or in the rooms. You may choose to send your child with some spending money for the canteen if they wish to purchase snacks, tee-shirts, hats, or other souvenirs. Finally, please do not ask your child to call you when we arrive at Jekyll. We are busy from the moment we get off the bus, and we will not have the time or the access to a phone (except in case of an emergency). No cell phones are allowed.

In the event of an emergency during regular office hours, the administrative staff at Jekyll can be contacted at 912/635-4115 or 4117. In case of a night emergency, you can contact the Jekyll Center through the state patrol at 912/635-2303. Students not attending Jekyll will report to their assigned classroom at the normal school time (7:20 – 7:50). All fifth grade classrooms will be locked.

We are scheduled to return at 6:30 P.M on Friday. Please make arrangements to be at school by 6:30 P.M. We’ll all be tired, and students and teachers alike will be looking forward to seeing their families. We’ll see you bright and early Wednesday morning!

Sincerely,

5th Grade Team
