Now that you have flat Teddy, thank you for getting him in the mail and on his way to one of our nations great parks, national, state or local. The anticipation is building as we wait for the first ones to return. We continue to read and write about Teddy Roosevelt this week. Our next hero will be George Washington Carver. Many of you were in attendance Thursday evening for our short PTA program. Thank you for coming out on a school night!
In math we will spend this week learning about the fractions of 1/2 and 1/4 as it applies to whole numbers and to groups of objects. Every day we do a 60 second math quiz and most of the students have progressed to the pink, subtraction facts up to 18. Our goal is to be able to do 100 facts in addition and subtraction in 5 minutes. That involves fluency and we need your help with math fact fluency in some individual cases.
Spelling, Fundations Phonics, and Words Our Way, we are learning spelling patterns for glued sounds and bonus letters. In Reader's Workshop we are reading nonfiction text and learning about it's identifying features.
Several housekeeping notes follow: Please respond with your permission forms for our March field trip to the Center for Puppetry Arts. Also be looking for a shoe box or something similar for your child's Valentine box. Decorate it as the directions guide you and send it in any time.
This week we will go to the media center on Thursday so return you books by then. We have our bimonthly guidance lesson on Tuesday afternoon. Also, we will have jackets without names coming into the classroom and, it's hard to believe, but when I hold them up to go home no one can claim them. Names inside would solve this problem. The Lollipop sale is beginning. It is an easy way to help feed hungry children in the world .Again, thanks for all that you do to make our days run smoothly.
