Thank you to all of the volunteers who spoke to students on Career Day! Classes learned about an incredible variety of jobs, the importance of education, and how to make their dreams/passion become an actual career. The day was filled with amazing speakers and students were encouraged to dress as their desired career!
Sope Creek was truly ENERGIZED by the 27th annual 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run. The day was filled with fitness, Peachtree Road Race Qualifying Times, Basket Auctions, Raffles, Visits with Sponsors, and lots of family fun! Results can be found here.
The results of the 5th grade Writing Test and how we compared with other Cobb schools and in the state have just been released.
Overall, the five schools with the highest scale scores were King Springs (246), Tritt (246), Sope Creek (244), East Side (239), and Timber Ridge (238). Schools with the highest percentage of students meeting or exceeding expectations include Tritt (99 percent), Kennesaw Charter (99 percent), Sope Creek (98 percent), Due West (97 percent), and King Springs (97 percent).
Our School Strategic Plan's Goals for the past several years have included an emphasis on writing across the curriculum, encouraging students to apply what they have learned and to engage their higher order thinking skills. We have been working to increase the percentage of students who EXCEED standards and decrease the percentage of students who DO NOT MEET Standards through writing across the curriculum. We are thrilled that 41 percent of all of our students EXCEEDED standards on this assessment this year, making an 11 percent increase in the number of students EXCEEDING standards!
Writing will become an even more important part of the curriculum as we implement the Common Core State Standards next year, and we will continue to challenge students and emphasize writing through a rigorous and relevant curriculum.
We are extremely proud of our students and staff. This test is much more rigorous than a multiple-choice test, and we are thrilled that our students have demonstrated a mastery of a variety of writing genres as well as conventions. Way to go, Soaring Eagles!

Friday, March 30th marked Sope Creek's annual day of Art Immersion: Art Day 2012! This PTA and Foundation-sponsored day is one of the many ways that we celebrate each of the Multiple Intelligences at our school and honor all kinds of SMARTS! The day was action-packed and filled with architecture-themed art experiences: performance art, music, dance, martial arts, visual arts, juggling, magic, improvisation, and plenty of time to CONSTRUCT CREATIVITY! This all tied in beautifully with our school-wide theme of BUILDING BRAINS, as we grow our physical plant with a 12 room addition and grow our brains with learning each and every day.
The ARCHITECHTS of the day were the Art Day Committee Chairs, Barbara Malone and Molly Peterka, along with their CREW of volunteers! They worked to schedule all performances, to transform the school with blueprints, multiple architectural sculptures, and examples of ways that people are CONSTRUCTING CREATIVITY and enhancing our lives with art. Thank you to Barbara and Molly for all of their vision, hard work, planning, and organization to ENGINEER an amazing day of learning for our students!

EGGSTRAVAGANZA!
Sope Creek students participated in the Relay for Life EGGSTRAGAVANZA....donating $1.00 per prize-filled egg to benefit cancer research. 36 lucky recipients got a "golden egg" and a chance to win one of the four grand prizes. Thanks to all who partiipated! We earned a lot of money for a great cause!
