Each year the Sope Creek PTA awards a scholarship to a Walton and Wheeler graduate that attended Sope Creek. Congratulations to Jake Hendon (Walton) and Lexie Newhouse (Wheeler) on being the recipients of the 2016 Sope Creek PTA Karen Looft Scholarship! Jake and Lexie received the awards this morning at the 5th grade awards ceremony. We congratulate them on their success post-Sope Creek and wish them the best of luck heading to college in the Fall!
Let Your Imagination Fly
This past school year, nearly 300,000 students in over 8,000 schools across the country and in U.S. schools overseas contributed their original works in dance choreography, film production, literature, music composition, photography and visual arts to be considered for PTA's highest honor in the arts.
We are thrilled to share that a Sope Creek student has been recognized at the National PTA Reflections level.

Way to go, Will!!!!!!!
Recently, we have had a few close calls that have involved our precious students and staff members. Our safety procedures only work when our families follow them! Please follow these rules, put in place to assure the safety of our students, staff, and families.
Please remember that the area in front of our lobby is a Fire Lane. Parking is never permitted. In the past, tickets have been issued for cars parked there.
Thank you for following these procedures, designed for both efficiency and safety. We appreciate your cooperation.
Thank you so much for your attendance at our Science Technology Engineering Art Math night! We loved seeing all of our talented artists' work on display and having the chance to experience STEM lessons in action. Robot Art was pretty fascinating, too!
Just a friendly reminder: If anyone would still like to buy a frame for their child's artwork, we will take payments until the middle of next week. The checks need to be inside a white envelope that is completely filled out.
Also, if anyone prepaid for their artwork and were unable to come last night to the show, Mrs. Hopkins will send their framed art sometime next week to the classroom.
Thank you to our fabulous Foundation, our many volunteers, and our lovely families for an incredible evening! Special thanks to Kelly Ingevaldson for putting together this beautiful video that perfectly captures this event.
Thank you to all the fifth grade families that sent in donations last week for Project Mail Call. On Friday, the students enjoyed a PowerPoint presentation from founders Mary & Ed Ettel, describing how Project Mail Call runs and what it means to the US military. Among other items, donations included 1,170 instant drink packets, 350 packets of peanut snacks, 538 Slim Jims, 115 deodorants and 96 chapsticks. Many other food, snacks, and toiletry items were donated, filling 7 large tubs. Thank you to everyone who helped make this service project a huge success!

Thank you Sope Creek Foundation for the generous grant for our new 3D printers! We are so excited to share this marvelous new technology with our students. This video is a time-lapse portrayal of the 3D printer creating a bracelet. The actual time was approximately one hour and 30 minutes.
We are excited to be kicking off the 2015-16 Honoring Our Heroes Essay program. Honoring Our Heroes is a writing program that encourages students to discover, honor, and write about real-life heroes - role models displaying generosity, trust, persistence, dedication, leadership, creativity, caring, bravery, imagination, service, gentleness, courage or compassion. Students are asked to redefine media-hyped and cartoon heroes such as professional athletes, movie stars, and rock musicians and instead recognize someone who has made a more personal impact on the student's life such as a family member, doctor, public safety officer, soldier, or teacher.
What a great opportunity to honor someone who may not even know what a difference they are making in your student’s life!
The student entry form can be found on the PTA website or by clicking here Student Entry Form. Entries are due by January 22nd.
