Have you recently moved into the Sope Creek district? Do you live in the Sope Creek district and have a student who is ready to enroll at Sope Creek? We welcome new students and are excited to meet all of our new families! We will be hosting an open registration to all students/families who live in the Sope Creek district on July 21st from 9:00 am - 6:00 pm.
Please be sure that you have reviewed all of Cobb County's registration and immunization requirements by clicking here. It is imperative that students have complete registration records before we can place them in a class.
We will see you on July 21st and look forward to meeting our newest Sope Creek students! No early registrations will be accepted. Please plan to attend the July 21st open registration, or make arrangements to come after that date.

Meet and Greet is the time when students can meet their teachers and see their new classrooms! Parents will have an opportunity to join the PTA, to sign up for volunteer opportunities, to register for the After School Program, to purchase spirit wear and other Sope Creek related items, and to learn about enrichment programs offered by The Foundation. In order to allow all families adequate time to meet with the teachers, and to ensure that we have ample parking, Meet and Greet will be arranged by last name of the alphabet. Please plan to attend at the appropriate time.
Meet and Greet Times:
12:30 - 1:30 : Last names beginning H - O
1:30 - 2:30 : Last names beginning P - Z
2:30 - 3:30 : Last names beginning A - G
We look forward to meeting all of our new to Sope Creek students and greeting our returning students!!

Sope
Creek will welcome about 100 Kindergarten through Eighth Grade teachers
from all corners of Cobb County when we host our second annual Model
Teaching Week! We are excited to be able to offer differentiated staff
development, and to continue to train teachers in the HET (Highly
Effective Teaching) model, allowing our teachers to receive training in
brain-compatible strategies.
Approximately 70 students in grades
1-9 have volunteered to serve as model students, and they will attend
class from Tuesday - Friday (6/16 - 6/19). We will be posting
information each day during MTW about strategies and events on the 2009 MTW Blog. To view information about last year's MTW, click here. For more information about the model and its origins, please visit The Center for Effective Learning.

We have a great opportunity coming this fall to make a difference in our children’s lives with this fall’s fundraiser, the Boosterthon Fun Run! The Boosterthon Fun Run is interactive, community-based, and promotes three specific values: FITNESS, EDUCATION & CHARACTER.
We will be kicking off the Boosterthon Fun Run on August 25th. Students are challenged to get 10 pledges for the laps they will be running on September 3rd. Students will run for 30 minutes, and average 25-35 laps with a “lap cap” of 35.
The Boosterthon Fun Run is for every student regardless of financial giving. All students receive an All-Star T-Shirt, and we invite all parents to come to the Boosterthon Fun Run and share this great event with them!
Our goal is to raise $45,000 for the Sope Creek Elementary PTA. The PTA provides and supports enrichment programs, teacher grants, and other fun and educational activities for our school community.
We ask you to help Sope Creek Elementary in the following four ways:
1. Please help connect your child to potential sponsors, and help them acquire pledges from family, friends, and contacts.
2. Ask your child about the character lesson they learn at school each day during the Boosterthon Fun Run program.
3. Please come to the Boosterthon Fun Run on September 3rd, and don’t forget to invite others to attend our fun community event.
4. Help us promote thankfulness in our community by encouraging students to thank their sponsors for their support to our school!
Please visit www.funrun.com to obtain more information about the Boosterthon Fun Run. Thank you again for being such a wonderful group of parents!

Reading is the most important lifelong skill that we can help our children to learn and to practice. Research tells us that as students read more, they improve their comprehension and grammar skills, their vocabularies expand, and they grow increasingly more motivated to read. There is also a relationship between the amount of reading students do at home and school and their standardized test scores (Braunger & Lewis, 1998). In short, children become better readers by reading.
Students at every grade level are encouraged to complete a summer reading assignment and to record the minutes that they read on a Sope Creek Reading Log.
So, read! At the beach, at the pool, in your own backyard. The rewards are immeasurable, the enjoyment is endless.
Sope Creek Super Summer Readers can reach and exceed our summer reading goals. Those who do can look for additional rewards when school resumes from the PTA Education and Literacy Committee and the Sope Creek teaching staff. But above all, reward yourself with some great reads and have a summer full of fun and exploration!

Our
PTA has created a new committee called the Diversity and Inclusion
Committee. In order to embrace the diverse cultures and languages of
students who attend Sope Creek, the Diversity and Inclusion Committee
would like to put together a cadre of bilingual volunteers who can
serve as language and culture interpreters for school events, beginning
with Meet and Greet. The goal is to overcome any language barriers or
cultural nuances that may confuse or intimidate newcomers to Sope
Creek. If you would like to assist with this committee, or would be
willing to serve as a translator, please contact the PTA's Diversity
and Inclusion Committee Chair, Wendy Stewart via email : wendywstewart@gmail.com
