Math - We will wrap up our chapter on fractions and will have our test on Tuesday, Feb. 14. We will then begin our study of decimals. Students will work toward demonstrating an understanding of decimals (0.3) decimal fractions (3/10). We will also learn to add and subtract decimals. We will continue to work on counting back change using the fewest number of coins.
Language Arts - We will be reading our biographies of Franklin D. Roosevelt and Eleanor Roosevelt. We will learn about the obstacles that they faced and how they overcame them. Our test on Franklin D. Roosevelt is this Friday, Feb. 17. We will continue to discuss the elements of nonfiction texts such as table of contents, glossary, index, pictures, captions, tables and graphs, and headings.
Spelling - This week we will be working on Sort 18. We will learn to add -ed to words with VC, VCe, VVC, and VCC patterns (planned, saved, waited, wanted). Next week we will begin Sort 19 as we learn unusual past-tense words (draw - drew). Spelling Sorts are on www.spellingcity.com. Students can print lists, practice cursive, and play games on this website. In Grammar we will continue to learn about adjectives and adverbs.
Social Studies - We will continue to learn about five major rivers in the United States: Ohio River, Hudson River, Mississippi River, Rio Grande River, and the Colorado River. We will also learn about the four types of productive resources: human resources, capital resources, natural resources, and entrepreneurship.
Science - We continue our study of the regions of Georgia. Students have almost finished their reports and are now typing them!
