Week of Dec. 12- Dec. 22

Here is a look at what we will be doing during the next two weeks;

Math - We will continue our study of geometry in Chapter 16. Students are bringing home their text books to study the vocabulary. We are also making a Geometry Book of Terms for the students to study daily. We will continue working on multiplication and division facts. Please continue to practice these at home. We are also continuing our study of counting back change and elapsed time. Our test on Chapter 16 will be next Tuesday, Dec. 20.

Language Arts - We will work on Sort 13 in spelling. Students will learn to identify spelling patterns of contractions for not and will. We will have our test on Friday. We will finish our Response to Literature piece this week.  We will continue our study of plural and possessive nouns and correct use of capitalization and punctuation. We will be taking our Checkpoint Tests in Language Arts, Math, and Science.

Social Studies - We will review the location of the Rocky and Appalachian Mountains.

Health - We will compare and contrast the negative effects of using alcohol, tobacco products, and other drugs.

Specials: STEM, Music, PE, PE, Art

CogAt and ITBS

We have received third grade CogAT and ITBS scores.  ITBS score reports will be distributed in sealed envrlopes on 12/9/11, the vendor does not distribute individual score reports for students/parents for the CogAT.  If you would like a copy of your child's CogAT scores, please contact you child's teacher.

The CogAT measures reasoning and problem-solving skills in three different areas: verbal, quantitative, and nonverbal. Reasoning skills develop gradually throughout a person’s lifetime and at different rates for different individuals. The Iowa Test of Basic Skills (ITBS) is a nationally standardized, norm-referenced test (NRT). A nationally standardized test is a test is administered to each test-taker in the same way across a specified comparison group (e.g., age groups, grade groups, etc.). The students have had a great week. They came right back in after the Thanksgiving break and have been ready to learn. I am very proud of them. Here is a look at what we will be doing next week. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.
