News for 8/30/07
Language Arts-This week the children enjoyed reading Clap Your Hands. They love having their own anthology to keep in their desks. Our word family this week was the -ap family. Ask your children how many words they can make. Next week we will read Itsy Bitsy Spider. Key words for next week will be: again, no, off, sun, some, try, very.
Math-This week we solved addition sentences adding zero. We also learned that we can add in any order and get the same answer(commutative property of addition). We will continue practicing addition in Chapter 1. Please practice basic math facts at home when you have time. Thank you for continuing to send in their math homework each day. That will make a big difference as we go through the year in math.
Handwriting-Please help your child succeed by encouraging proper strokes and neatness when writing at home. Many children are still including capital letters within their names. I'm not as concerned about reversals at this time. Most children will correct themselves by the end of First Grade.
Science-During the next few weeks we will be working on our weather unit. A separate newsletter will be coming home with more details. Your children have been wonderful about collecting water bottles for us to use when we make our tornadoes!
