Relay for Life is Friday, May 9th. Sope Creek has done an awesome job of raising money for this worthwhile charity. Our goal is $5,000.00 and we've raised $4683.99. Sope Creek is going to have one more fundraiser this year. We're going to have a Hat Day on Friday, May 9th. Pay $1.00 and wear a hat. Please have your child bring the dollar on that Friday. Thanks for your support!

Language Arts- This week we read Henry and Mudge in the Green Time. The children love the reading about the friendship between Henry and his pet Mudge. They could relate to taking care of a pet. We are continuing to work on the -ed and -ing endings and long vowel a: ai, ay, a-e. After our break we will read Pets. This story will discuss having animals as pets.
Math-We will finish our unit on "Time and the Calendar" tomorrow and we will have our unit 20 Chapter Test by the end of the week. When we return from Spring Break, we will start our chapter on measurement.
Science-We are finishing our unit on "Plants and Their Needs." We are still observing our seedlings to see how much more they will grow before Spring Break. After our break we'll start our study of animals.
CRCT-We will began practicing with our CRCT paper tests, when we return from Spring Break, to make sure we are comfortable "bubbling in" for the Official CRCT Tests. We will test on April 23rd, 24th, and 25th for the First Grade CRCT. Some other grade levels will have more testing after we finish.
Thank you to Ronise Crumbler and Carla Gignilliat for being my Super Parents this week.
I hope all of you have a wonderful Spring Break! Please be safe and I'll see you back on April 14th.
Enjoy your weekend!
Smartboards-We have borrowed our "shared" Smartboards this week and the students have really enjoyed using them as the lessons can be so interactive. Students have had math, language arts, and science lessons. Each week we will continue to borrow the "shared board", as it is portable, and we will be using it for all of our lessons on the day that we have the board. Since there are eight First Grades, that means we might not have it each week, but it makes us more excited to think about having our very own "Smartboard" before school is out this year.
Language Arts-This week our story was Jenny’s Journey. This was a fun story about a girl who imagines how she will travel to visit a friend. We also had our Skills Test 4 and the children did great! Next week’s story: Dreams. Key Words: city, grew, made, school, shadow, someone, street, today, wait, trapped.
Math-This week we're finishing our chapter on money. The children will take their test and I'll send the results home. Next week we'll start Chapter 20. In this chapter we'll work on time to the hour and half hour.
Science- We're having a great time learning all about plants. This week we discussed the different parts of a plant and what 4 things they need to live. We've planted marigold seeds and we're doing a lima bean experiment. On Friday all our centers will be plant centers. Please ask your children what they're learning about plants.
Report cards are coming home today. Please sign the white signature card and return it in the brown envelope. If you have any questions about your child's progress, please call or email me.
Thanks to Amanda Surry for being my helper mom this week. We look forward to Jill Harris coming and reading to our class on Friday.
