Wednesday, March 11th - Friday, March 13th the PTA is sponsoring a Sope Creek Clinic Drive. Needed supplies range from ginger ale and round peppermint candies to tissues and clothes. Please see the clinic link located on the Sope Creek blog for a complete list.
ART DISPLAY FOR FUN RUN – Wednesday, March 11th from 10am - 12pm, volunteers will be hanging our children's artwork for display during Fun Run. If you are available to help, please stop by the Art Class and Daphne Hopkins will give you instructions. If you are not available on the 11th, but have other free time this week, please see Daphne or contact Susan Laug, susanlaug@msn.com. We need to have all the art work hung by March 13th.
The Foundation needs volunteers to help stuff race bags for the Fun Run. Please stop by the Sope Creek gym on Sunday, March 8th any time between 12pm and 4pm if you are available to help. Pizza and water will be served. Please contact Tamara Karrh, tdkarrh@bellsouth.net for more information.
Class baskets will be on display in the Media Center during the week of March 9th - 13th. They will be auctioned off at the Fun Run on Saturday, March 14th.
Next week (2/9 - 2/13) is Ability Awareness Week. This is a great opportunity for our kids to see how everyone is unique, and together there is nothing we cannot accomplish. Ability Awareness Week will kick off on Monday with a performance by Full Radius Dance.
On March 3rd, Sope Creek will be celebrating its "Go Green" initiative with a themed program for all grade levels. The kids will enjoy a morning of speakers and hands on activities both in the classroom and around the school. Another easy and effective way to support our school is through Box Tops for Education. If every child brought in one sheet taped with 10 Box Tops every month, that would be $1 per child - over $1,000 per month! There are collection bins located throughout the school, and there are prizes each month for the student in each grade that submits the most Box Tops. It is fun and easy. Our carpool line is a “No Idling Zone”. As part of our “Going Green” campaign we have launched this “No Idling” zone to protect the health of our students. You received a green informational sheet on this topic last week. Please remember to turn off your car or truck if you are going to be sitting more then 30 seconds in the carpool line. This helps your car, saves gas, and protects lungs.

The elected PTA Nominating Committee will be then be seeking candidates for the 2 PTA Executive Board positions which will come available in June – Co-President and Co-Vice President. The Nominating Committee does need volunteers and it is a one to two hour commitment. We would appreciate your help!

The PTA Community Outreach committee is sponsoring a Snack Drive, January 26 - 30, to benefit our sister school Powers Ferry Elementary. All snacks (including juice boxes), with the exception of candy and peanut butter items, are welcome. The bins for collection will be located outside the front office.

Join your friends and neighbors for a night of Braves baseball! Our Sope Creek Chorus has been selected to sing “The Star-Spangled Banner” on Tuesday, April 28th. Mark your calendar now and join us for a fun-filled evening! Ticket Sales will begin in March.
The Community Outreach Committee is sponsoring our annual Thanksgiving Food Drive the week of November 10 through November 14 to benefit our families in need from nearby schools. Please bring in canned/boxed foods so that families in need can prepare a full Thanksgiving meal. We are also requesting that students bring in any loose change so that we can purchase gift cards to food stores so that turkeys can be purchased. We will have volunteers outside the cafeteria the entire week to collect your change during lunch. Thanks for all your help making this holiday special for those in need.

Tuesday, November 11th is Papa John's Pizza night. This is the perfect opportunity to take a night off from cooking while earning money for the school.

During the week of October 27-October 31, 2008, the Student Council will be collecting "Pennies for Patients" for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Donations will help pay for research to find a cure for these forms of cancer and to assist patients who have these disease. Please make a difference by donating to this worthy cause. Council members will be collecting each morning as the children enter their classrooms.

Kids Vote is Wednesday, October 15th. Your child will have a great time "voting" in our mock election. Be sure to ask him/her all about it. Next week (10/13 - 10/17) is National School Lunch Week. Feel free to join your child for lunch! Tuesday, October 14th is Papa John's pizza night. Enjoy a pizza dinner, while earning money for the Sope Creek Foundation. Friday, October 17th is the last day to contribute to the Foundation's Smartkids Campaign. The money raised in this campaign will be used to buy the few remaining Smartboards that are still needed.
